Maine Amateur Driving Club Spring 2007 Newsletter

It's time to start thinking about the 2007 season for The Maine Amateur Driving Club. Here are some of the things that are happening.

1. Applications are available here.

2. You must make out a application and pay your dues in order to be eligible to participate.

3. A 3-member panel has been set up to handle all issues pertaining to the club such as eligibility; etc. (Bill MacDonald, Butch Eaton & Tom Beckwith)

4. We will be a member of The USTA Amateur Drivers Club again this year. This enables us to be eligible to send a representative from our club to Deleware, Ohio on Sept 16 to drive in The Tim Fouts Memorial. Last year the Promotion Board paid for this. ($500) The only money that we will have comes from the dues. If we have a large enrollment and get organized; maybe we could find an outside sponsor or sponsors

5. Next month (April) I have introduced an appeal to Ralph Canney and Henry Jackson for a SPECIAL EVENTS license that allow amateur driving clubs to compete in Maine on one license for one money Example--The entire Mass Club comes to Maine once or twice and buys one license for everyone for about $35. Bill Abdelnour (Mass Club President) is trying to do the same thing down in Mass so we could go down there to compete for the same mentioned money. Ralph has spoken in favor of this license. I would urge all club members to contact the racing commission and show your support.

6. Drivers with Q licenses will be allowed to drive at commercial tracks in amateur events only

Haven't had a chance to talk to Joe at Scarbough so I don't know when we will get going; but with everyone opening up you better have em ready.

Trotters will be part of the agenda if we have enough interest.

Powder Puff race will be scheduled at Plainridge when we go down if there is enough interest.

Anyone with any suggestions should contact me at 743-2979 or buddy.burke@verizon.net
