Scarborough and Bangor add dates for 2010

November 10, 2009 - by Bill MacDonald - The Maine Harness Horsemen's Association announced today that it had come to an agreement with both Scarborough Downs and Bangor Raceway to add a total of 7 days of racing in 2010 compared to their original proposals to the Maine State Harness Racing Commission last Wednesday.

Scarborough Downs will extend their 2009 winter meet into January and race on January 2nd & 3rd. They will start their spring season a week earlier, racing on April 3rd and 4th.

Bangor Raceway will add three Fridays in July. July 9th, 16th and 23rd will be added to their schedule for 2010.

"We have shortened the 'off-season' by two weeks and I feel that is a direct response to our member's concerns." said MHHA executive director Chandler Woodcock.

Both tracks will present their amended schedules to the Maine Harness Racing Commission on November 12 in Augusta. The hearing will take place at 12:30 pm in room 208 of the Burton Cross Building. "The need of the horsemen attending has diminished with this agreement, but they are welcome to attend." said Woodcock
