Scarborough, Maine – The sound of thundering hooves will once again echo over the picturesque meadows surrounding Scarborough Downs as the seaside oval contests its first round of qualifying races on Saturday March 31st.

Six races encompassing 43 horses will comprise the initial card which is scheduled to commence at 10:30 am (EDT).

Rousing from their winter slumber and venturing forth into a new year of boundless possibilities charge the equine athletes and tenacious teamsters who will battle for boundless riches and glory throughout the coming season.

Kerogen will ship-in from the far-reaches of northern Maine as the regally bred son of Lindy Lane embarks on his four-year-old campaign. Deftly handled by Presque Isle’s own, Kim Ireland, this upward bound trotting star was a Pennsylvania stakes winner as both a two and three-year-old while precociously besting Open competition late last year.

Jason’s Jiffy mounts a bold come-back attempt off a year long respite following an abbreviated campaign last season. This studly son of Village Jiffy will look to recapture his 2005 form which earned him 14 victories and made him one of the most feared top-class competitors in Maine.

Up-and-coming driver, Robert Dinning will handle the reigns for Brian Bickmore.

Sassy Sarah trumps all female entries as driver/trainer Wally Watson preps his Open distaffer at The Downs. Another offspring of Village Jiffy, this mare ventures forth into 2007 off an incredible nine win season last year for owner Ralph Kennedy.

The New York Sire Stakes winner, LLYR will be showcased by the top prospect pilot, Kevin Switzer, Jr. – steering for the mighty KDK Standardbreds stable. This four-year-old son of the surprisingly valuable stallion, Lislea, contested a remarkable 2006; winning 9 races while placing top-three in an astonishing 18 of 23 outings.

These and the others entered to compete will shake off the rust and dust off the cobwebs as they primp and prep on the big time oval at Maine’s Showplace of harness racing. The dawn of the 2007 season heralds a new age of grandeur in state of Maine harness racing – with Scarborough Downs poised to play the leading role.

Scarborough Downs proudly features live harness action each Monday, Tuesday and Saturday afternoon with first post scheduled for 3:45 pm (EDT). The popular Sunday matinees get underway quite promptly at 12:05 pm.
