Hank Fenno Trotting Series Carried to Monday
Michael M. Sweeney for Scarborough Downs J uly 11, 2007Scarborough, Maine - - Fourteen trotters declared in to compete in the upcoming Hank Fenno Memorial Trotting Series -- a late closing event that named to honor the memory of the longtime Scarborough Downs track announcer. The first leg of the series was scheduled to be contested on Sunday (7-15). The split divisions of the Fenno, combined with two groupings of the Maine Standardbred Breeders Stake for three-year-old pacing colts plus a generous abundance of overnight entries, forced Scarborough Downs to make the decision to carry one division of the Fenno Series to Monday’s (7-16) card. "We hope that carrying the one division forward to Monday will not inconvenience anyone" said Scarborough spokesperson, Susan Higgins, "But the decision became necessary since we are only authorized to card eleven dashes per day." "Scarborough Downs felt it extremely important to accommodate the horsemen and women who have supported us so faithfully this season" Higgins continued, "The healthy horse population and over-flowing entry box is a nice problem with which to deal. We’ll continue to do whatever we can to support our loyal horsemen and foster the growth of the local horse population." Scarborough Downs proudly features live harness action every Monday, Tuesday and Saturday afternoon at 3:45 pm (EDT). The popular Sunday matinees feature a 12:05 post time.. |
