Scarborough, Maine –
Moving on from the brightly lit avenues of New York State to
now traverse the country lanes of pastoral southern Maine,
Wall Street Wally has not only found a new home in the
stable of Timothy Hudson but also regained his winning
stride on the seaside oval at Scarborough Downs.
Wall Street Wally, a lightly raced
five-year-old son of Wallstreet Tycoon found the winner’s
circle on Sunday for the first time in nearly two years as
he recorded his 8th winning effort from only 38
lifetime starts. The pacer raced gamely on the front-end in
rein to Hudson, setting all his own fractions and holding
off a fast closing Lindons Luey at the wire
“We got him out of New York last year
-- we got a good deal for him, a pretty good price.”
explained Hudson. “He’s sound, very sound. I don’t know what
happened to him down south, why he had only 8 starts in two
years, I just don’t know. But right now he’s good and we’re
enjoying working with him.”
“Tim and Wally” won a division of the
Maine Amateur Driving Club on Sunday at Scarborough,
following up on last weekend’s near-miss runner-up spot in
the same classification. MADC racing has become an extremely
popular portion of each Sunday matinee at Scarborough – not
only with the drivers but also with the fans.
“Our patrons really enjoy betting on
these races” said Downs’ Marketing Director Susan Higgins.
“The Amateur Club races are always hard fought contests and
generally well balanced fields. The proof is in the mutual
pools – these races generate handle.”
Hudson, a 45-year-old native of
Waterville, Maine has been driving now since 1995. Today’s
victory marked his 30th lifetime win.
Switzer Sizzle
Driver/trainer Kevin Switzer put on a
clinic at Scarborough Downs on Sunday steering three winning
entries down victory lane including two from his own stable.
Switzer engineered the winning
strategy for Sue Stetson’s H F Wade who is campaigned out of
the red hot Richard Flanders Stable, before turning his
attention to his own roster.
Kathleen Mofield’s Western Hope was
next on the list as the as the seven-year-old mare claimed
her second consecutive win, while Lorna Cohen’s Shady
Sabrina put the icing on the cake for Switzer by easily
besting Scarborough’s good $6000 Open Distaff field.
Shady Sabrina, 2007 Distaff Pacer of
the Year at the Downs, wasted little time in reclaiming her
dominate spot atop the Open rankings by making her first
local start a winning one. Her 1:57.2 clocking represents
the third fastest time recorded at the young Scarborough
Downs meet.
Scarborough Downs proudly features
live harness action every Friday and Saturday afternoon with
first post slated for 4:15 pm (EDT). The popular Sunday
matinee performance rolls in behind the gate at 1:30 pm.
