Shady Sabrina remains the Queen of the local pacing scene at Scarborough Downs on Saturday as she becomes the fastest mare in state of Maine history
Shady Sabrina, racing in the $10,000 second leg of the Mid-Summer Classic Pacing Series, in fact, eclipsed any previous effort ever mustered by a distaff pacer in all of Maine, touring the seaside oval in a blistering time of 1:54.1 as she one-upped her own distaff track record of 1:55 (co-held with Gracie Gracie) -- a record secured only one week prior.

Kevin Switzer once again called the shots behind the 8-year-old daughter of Cam’s Dignity sending her gallantly to the lead where she withstood the early and persistent challenge of the Yonkers invader, Giddy Up Lucky (Ron Cushing) who engaged the pace-setting mare just prior to the 3/8th mile marker. Shady Sabrina firmly held her position throughout the mile though, as the combination of her incredible speed and the lightning fast racetrack conspired to create the new distaff gold standard at Scarborough Downs.

The blazing mile also equaled the third fastest clocking ever taken during the 60 year history of Scarborough Downs, outdistanced only by Hotrod Falcon’s (Walter Case, Jr.) all sex track record of 1:52.4 and the stallion standard of 1:54 co-held by Prince Ebony (Ron Pierce) and On A Tear (Shawn Gray).

Shady Sabrina joins Landmark Honor (Irv Mauran) and Ideal Conditions (Jonathan Roberts) as the only other pacers to record 1:54.1 miles at the Downs.

Owned jointly by the Golden Hour Stable and the KDK Standardbreds, the Queen of the local scene will be among the favorites in the $25,000 final of the Mid-Summer Classic Pacing Series to be carded on the occasion of the Downs’ 60th anniversary, Saturday July 17th, as the summer of speed rolls on.

Scarborough Downs proudly features live harness racing every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 4:00 pm (EDT). The popular Sunday matinees feature a 1:30 pm post time.
