The field for the marquis pacing event has been narrowed down to 6 after three elimination legs were held over the last three weeks.

“Doubleshotascotch absolutely exploded once he was shown daylight late in the lane last week,” said track announcer Mike Sweeney. “And with Shady Sabrina the only mare in the field, this event will be a true battle of the sexes, reminiscent of the Bobby Riggs versus Billy Jean King showdown.” Shady Sabrina, he notes, is rightly acknowledged as one of the finest aged pacing mares on the Eastern Seaboard right now, having smashed a Scarborough Downs track record for aged mares over the July 4th weekend in the second leg of the series.

The line up is as follows:

HN PP Horse Driver Trainer Odds
2 1 RODEO DU RUISSEAU James Hardy Dick Robertson, Sr. 6-1
3 2 DOUBLESHOTASCOTCH Heath Campbell Valerie Grondin 5-2
4 3 TIREMAN Ron Cushing Ron Cushing 5-1
5 4 MYSTICAL DELIGHT W. Drew Campbell Randy Bickmore 8-1
1 5 ROMAN CONQUEROR N Rob Dinning Kevin Switzer 2-1
1A 6 SHADY SABRINA Kevin Switzer Kevin Switzer 2-1

In addition to the pacing series, other events for the anniversary celebration include memorabilia: Adding to the current displays of driver silks and vintage sulkies, the track has added even more to its Hall of Fame display in the Grandstand such as photos of horses, drivers and programs from the last 60 years. Key races, such as the one where Walter Case Jr. and Hotrod Falcon set the longstanding track record for speed in the 1993 President’s Pace, will air during the 13-race card, as well as video recordings of patrons and former employees sharing their best track memories.

A special commemorative T-shirt, designed for the 60th anniversary, will be sold in the Grandstand starting at 3:30 pm for $5.00.

The Downs Club is also open for a buffet dinner for $21.95 beginning at 3 pm. For reservations, call 207-883-3022.

Admission to the track is free.
