Under the tutelage of top trot master, Paul Battis, Cranmeadow Express appears the real deal. The 2-year-old son of Will Do Hanover strode long and confidently around the seaside oval, and in four stakes appearances, has never been seriously threatened. The mile was timed in 2:07.2 with Katahdin Raymond (Gary Hall) finishing second; and Serious Kid (Wally Watson) third.

Thursday marked the first appearance by the 2-year-old Maine Sire Stakes trotters at the Downs, giving the local fans the first glimpse of developing greatness.

Other stakes winners on Thursday included Pembroke Earl (Heath Campbell), Sports Cast (Mark Athearn), and Stonehollow Goblin (Kevin Switzer).

Stakes action returns Friday afternoon at Scarborough Downs with the 2-year-old pacing division, and features undefeated fillies Barbra Ann and Maeve. Post time is 4 pm.
