Cranmeadow Express continued his dominant season on Thursday at Scarborough Downs as the 2 year old Maine-bred scored his 8th consecutive winning effort. Owned, trained and reined by veteran trot master, Paul Battis, Cranmeadow Express remains undefeated in stakes competition this year and with one final leg to go, the son of Will Do Hanover, will clearly be the one to beat in the rich stakes finals to be carded at the Downs on September 12th.

“He’s a pretty handy trotter,” said an understated Paul Battis. “I think I’ve got a good one here.”

If win records are indicative, Battis is clearly correct: Cranmeadow Express is one of the rising stars along the Pine Tree harness circuit.

In other news: Driver Heath Campbell held the hot hand at the Downs on Thursday, winning five races from the 11-race program, including a Maine Sire Stakes event with Pembroke Earl. Other stakes winners on the program included Iza Bella (Ivan Davies) and Delta Dream (Irv Mauran), both claiming victory in 2-year-old filly divisions.

Stakes racing returns to the Downs on Friday, August 27th with three splits of the 2-year-old filly pacing divisions, headed by undefeated superstar, Barbra Ann. Post time is 4 pm.
