The fastest horse of the 2005 season and a veteran driver received weekly honors from the Maine Harness Racing Promotional Board.

Perfect Trick, whose 1:57.1 mile is the quickest thus far in the 2005 racing season, was named Horse of the Week for the week ending June 5th.  Perfect Trick established the seasonal mark when he won the featured Winners Over pace this past Saturday evening at Scarborough Downs. It marked his second win in as many starts in Maine, having captured the top class at Bangor the previous.

Perfect Trick, is owned and trained by Doug Beckwith of Seconnd North River, New Brunswick. The five-year-old horse has visited the winner’s circle six times in just nine starts this season, and has not finished off the board in 2005.

Stephen Mahar is this week’s Driver of the Week. During a weekend highlighted by several impressive driving performances, the veteran teamster won ten races at Bangor Raceway, including five on Friday night’s card. Mahar, a perennial leading driver on the Pine Tree Circuit, recently won the 4,500th race of his career.

The Maine Harness Racing Promotional Board will honor a horse and an individual each week throughout the 2005 season.
