Freshman and sophomore pacing fillies took center stage when the Maine Standardbred Breeders Stakes continued this past Friday evening at Scarborough Downs. Landmark Precious was an impressive winner in the first leg of the year for 2-year-old fillies. Despite being saddled with post position nine in the 10-horse field, Landmark Precious made the lead past the quarter pole and went on and won by more than 11 lengths for driver Irv Mauran. Marineon (Gordon Corey) finished second, and Marci Marci (Jason Bartlett) overcame the number 10 post and finished third. In the first of two divisions for 3-year-old pacing fillies, Baton won her second consecutive stakes of the year, this one a wire-to-wire effort for Jason Bartlett. Roxie (Dave Ingraham) finished second, and Hasta Luego Baby (Drew Campbell) finished third. Baton is owned by the RAM Racing Stable of Portland, Maine, and is trained by Dick Bartlett. The second division for sophomore pacing fillies was won by Blond Moment, who went gate-to-wire for driver Wallace Watson. Ohyoulittlething (Ivan Davies) finished second, and My Girl Connie (Mike Graffam) grabbed third place money. Blond Moment is owned and trained by Charles Eaton of South Portland, Maine. More Maine Standardbred Breeders Stakes were raced on Saturday night at Scarborough Downs, and the next divisions will be raced at Bangor Raceway on Sunday. |
