JATES SKYHAWK CONTINUE TO ROLL

A pair of razor sharp pacers added to their winning streaks Friday evening at Bangor Raceway. Baton (Jason Bartlett) won her third consecutive leg of the Maine Standardbred Breeders Stake for three-year-old pacing fillies. After grabbing a two hole trip behind front running rival Blond Moment, Baton and Bartlett swept to the lead on the backstretch en route to a four plus length victory. Blond Moment (Wallace Watson) held on for the place position, while Pembroke Annie Mac (Heath Campbell) grabbed the show spot. The 1:58.1 mile established a lifetime mark for Baton, who is owned by the RAM Racing Stables of Portland and trained by Dick Bartlett. The filly has won ten of twelve sire stake events over the past two seasons. The earlier division for sophomore pacing fillies provided fans with a thrilling finish as Ohyoulittlething (Rusty Lanpher, III) prevailed by a nose over Lethal Addiction (Jason Bartlett) to win her second sire stake event of the season. Queen of Pembroke (Heath Campbell) finished third. The 2:01.1 mile equaled the lifetime mark for Ohyoulittlething who is owned and trained by Don Bishop. In the feature race of the evening Jates Skyhawk (Heath Campbell) won his fifth consecutive start. After grabbing the lead at the quarter pole the duo was a nose better than Perfect Trick (Dirk Duncan) with Perfect Dreamer (Shawn Gray) only a half length back in the electrifying finish. Jates Skyhawk is owned By Bill Varney of Bangor and trained by Valerie Grondin. The Friday evening card at Bangor also featured the final of the Marshall Crandall Memorial Series. After dealing with some traffic difficulties, favored Diamonds Destiny (Shawn Gray) made an awesome move in the final panel and cruised to a five and quarter length victory. Shurfine Bailycate (Mike Cushing) was second in the 1:57.4 mile, while Grinders Jaque (Scott MacKenzie) finished third. Diamonds Destiny is owned and trained by David Martson of New Gloucester, Maine. A pair of two-year-old pacing fillies each took new lifetime marks in non-betting sire stakes events. Landmark Precious (Irv Mauran) remained undefeated as she won her second straight MSBS event in 2:02.2. CK’s Dragon (Jason Bartlett) finished second with Ariel (Freeman Parker) finishing third. Landmark Precious is owned by Joseph Palmeri and trained by Cheryl Mauran. In the second division for freshman fillies Edain (Kevin Switzer) won the first race of her career, a head better than Caprice (Gary Hall.) Hannas Hollianna (Greg Bowden) was third. Edain is owned by Anthony Sivik and the KDK Standardbreds and is trained by Robert Marston. |
