A pair of sharp fillies extended their respective winning streaks during Maine Standardbred Breeders Stake action Friday evening at Scarborough Downs. In the first of two $4,976 divisions for three year old pacing fillies Baton (Jason Bartlett) won her fourth sire stake event in as many starts. Bartlett grabbed a two hole trip behind front running Blond Moment (Wallace Watson) then challenged the pace setter past the five-eighths pole. The rival fillies raced as a team from there to the wire, with Baton prevailing in the final strides. My Girl Connie (Mike Graffam) finished third in the 1:59.3 mile. Baton is owned by the RAM Racing Stable of Portland, Maine and is trained by Richard Bartlett. In the second $4,976 division for sophomore fillies, Ohyoulittlething (Gary Mosher) won her third MSBS event of the season when she wore down Neon Red (Ivan Davies) in the homestretch. Roxie (Brian Nelson) grabbed the show spot in the 2:01.3 mile. Ohyoulittlething’s three stake victories have come with three different drivers aboard. The filly is owned and trained by Don Bishop of Fredericton, New Brunswick. Friday’s card also featured a pair of divisions for two year old filly pacers. In a $5,283 event Landmark Precious ran her winning streak to three with a sixteen plus length victory for driver Irv Mauran. Fancy Moves (Mike Cushing) grabbed the two hole early in the mile and held on for second, while Dragon Miss Daisy (Shane Taggart) rallied for third in her first stake appearance. Landmark Precious is owned by Joe Palmeri of Fort Plain, New York and is trained by Cheryl Mauran. In the first division for freshman pacing fillies CK’s Dragon (Jason Bartlett) was parked to the quarter but maintained the lead throughout the mile and recorded the initial win of her career. Ariel (Freeman Parker) was a fast closing second in the 2:05 mile, while Marineon (Gordon Corey) finished third. The East Pond Stable of Oakland, Maine owns CK’s Dragon, who is trained by Eric Bickmore |
