STARS COME OUT AT WINDSOR SUNDAY AFTERNOON

An undefeated  filly and the return of a record setting pacer are just a couple of the storylines as the annual harness racing meeting at the Windsor Fair kicks off this coming Sunday afternoon. Racing will continue each day right through Monday, September 5th.

In the opening race of the meet Landmark Precious seeks to continue her winning streak in a $5,084 division of the Maine Standardbred Breeders Stake for two year old pacing fillies. Joe Palmeri’s filly is undefeated in sire stake competition and will try keep her perfect record intact in the final preliminary leg before the lucrative final at Scarborough Downs in two weeks. Regular pilot Irv Mauran will be in the sulky.

Three other breeders stake events are part of the fourteen race card at Windsor Sunday. In the second $5,083 division for freshmen fillies, Anthony Orpik and the KDK Standardbred’s Edain appears to be the horse to beat, having been first or second in five of seven starts this season.

There will also be a pair of trotting events for two year olds. The $5,584 division for fillies is headlined by Pop N Paula and Bad Girl Josie.  When these two last hooked up at Skowhegan, Bad Girl Jose handed Pop N Paula the first defeat of her career. A $5,387 event for freshmen trotting colts is led by Miles Moving, who has yet to lose since arriving in Maine from The Meadows racetrack in Pennsylvania.

The feature race of the afternoon is also the first local start for Jason’s Jiffy since he won the $10,000 Paul Bunyan Pace at Bangor a month ago. Two weeks after that victory, Jason’s Jiffy won the $20,000 Robert McCain Invitational at New Brunswick’s Woodstock Raceway in 1:54.1. Not only did that mile establish a new track record, it was also the fastest mile ever paced over a half mile track in New Brunswick racing history. For the last two weeks Jason’s Jiffy, who is owned by Brian Bickmore of Hermon, competed in the prestigious Gold Cup and Saucer event in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Post time Sunday afternoon at the Windsor Fair is at 1:00 P.M.
