The Maine Sire Stakes season starts on June 25th at Bangor Raceway with the 3 year old trotters. The MSBOA will continue to monitor the track conditions at Bangor for possible change of venue if necessary, especially with the two year olds.

6/19 - Mike Cushing underwent surgery this morning to repair a bruised spinal cord and compressed vertebrae. Doctors say the surgery was successful. We should see the red and gold back in the sulky after a month of rehab.

6/18 - Mike Cushing was injured tonight at Bangor Raceway during the qualifying races. He was unseated and catapulted into the air, landing on his tailbone. He was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center and evaluated. Mike initially was in a lot of pain and had lost feeling in his legs. He has since regained the feeling in his legs and was waiting for the doctor's evaluation with family and friends as of 10:00 pm tonight. The Weather Witch Headlines Lady Luck Final

6/14 -An update regarding Yonkers Raceway's leading driver, Jason Bartlett, who was injured in a second-race accident here Friday night. Bartlett was released (with crutches) from Lawrence Hospital (Bronxville, NY) early Saturday morning, and was en route back home to Maine early Saturday afternoon.
Bartlett, driving Hurricane Mike, was racing second just past the the quarter-pole. He was unseated when the sulky broke--like someone pulled a chair out from under him--and was subsequently run over by AP Stonehenge, the horse (and sulky) directly behind him. He did not lose consciousness.
Bartlett suffered an injury to his right leg, with much swelling but no broken bones. "It's by far the worst racing injury I've ever suffered," Bartlett said. "I have a drive (Velocity Hall) in (next Saturday's) eliminations for the Yonkers Trot, and I'm hoping to be back by then. That may be optimistic, but that's what I'm shooting for." - Frank Drucker, Yonkers Raceway

6/13 - Jason Bartlett, leading driver at Yonkers Raceway, was injured in a second-race accident Friday night. Bartlett, driving Hurricane Mike, was unseated when the sulky broke passing the quarter-mile pole and was subsequently "run over" by trailing horses and sulkies. He suffered an injury to his right leg and was taken to Lawrence Hospital in nearby Bronxville, NY, for tests and further evaluation. No further information was available as of this writing. The 27-year-old Bartlett, a native of Augusta, ME, won his 2,000th career race earlier this season. Overall in '08, he has won 241 races  and more than $2 million in purses, with 178 victories and more than $1.6 million in purses coming here. He won the evening's first race with the  favored Your Not Funny. - Frank Drucker, Yonkers Raceway.

6/10 - We are back up and running. Details on Webmaster's Page

6/3 - The MSBOA board of directors met tonight in Augusta and discussed the Bangor Sire Stakes dates at length. Several horsemen were also present to give their opinions to the board. Mike Andrew, president of the MSBOA stated that the board is gravely concerned with the track condition at Bangor Raceway, given the uneven surfaces that the two and three year olds will have to endure. The board is going to continue to monitor track conditions and improvements over the next two weeks. The board is planning to request a spot on the agenda for the June Racing Commission meeting and will make a decision prior to that time regarding a request for a change of venue.
