SCARBOROUGH DOWNS RACE TRACK

Subject: Policy For Horses Stabled, Training or
Racing on the Grounds of Scarborough Downs For The Year 2007
Effective immediately the following policy is
in effect.
- Only horses actively involved in racing or
babies in training may be stabled on the grounds of Scarborough
Downs. Horses no longer involved in harness racing or horses
that have not raced in the past year may not be stabled at
Scarborough Downs. This is to include retired horses and riding
horses.
- All horses stabled or entering the grounds
of Scarborough Downs must have a valid negative Coggins, in
accordance with title 7 section 1820 of the Maine Revised
Statutes, requiring a negative Coggins test within 36 months,
for all horses raced on, exhibited at or stabled at racetracks
or fairgrounds. The Director of Security will maintain a record
of horses stabled in the barns and horses shipped in on non-race
days for training purposes. Horses entering the draw must have a
valid negative coggins test on file with the Race Secretary’s
office in accordance with chapter1, section 15 of the Rules of
the Maine Harness Racing Commission.
- Horses shipping onto the grounds of
Scarborough Downs from out of state must have a certificate of
veterinary inspection. The Director of Security will maintain a
record of horses that are stabled in the barns, that ship in
from out-of-state, or that are on the grounds on non-race days
for training purposes. Horses entering the draw must have a
certificate of veterinary inspection on file with the Race
Secretary’s office.
- In an effort to keep safe all horses
on the grounds of Scarborough Downs, given the recent out-breaks
of Equine Herpes at other states. The following requirements are
established before any horse may enter or reenter the grounds
- All horses shipping onto the
grounds of Scarborough Downs for the purpose of training or
racing will be vaccinated for the Equine Herpes Virus (EHV)
before being allowed on the grounds. Proof of immunization
will be required.
- No horse will be permitted to
enter the grounds of Scarborough Downs that does not have a
valid negative coggins and proof of immunization for the
Equine Herpes Virus (EHV). The Director of Security will
maintain a record of horses in the barnyard and horses
shipping in on non-race days for training purposes. Horses
entering the draw must have proof of a valid negative
coggins and immunization for the Equine Herpes Virus (EHV)
on file with the race office.
- Vaccinations for the Equine
Herpes Virus (EHV) should be given 14 days before entering
the grounds of Scarborough Downs and must be current within
6 months.
- The Barn Supervisor will assign all horses
stalls. Horsemen who bring a new horse onto the grounds must
have all paper work and check the horse in with security at the
stable gate. Horses showing up at the stable gate without paper
work will be turn away.
- Horsemen that are stable on the grounds
and transfer a horse to another horsemen must fill out a
transfer sheet with security at the stable gate.
- Scarborough Down will have over night
stalls available this year on a first come first served basis on
race days. Contact Director of Security for stalls.
- This regulation is subject to change at
the discretion of track management.
