The Maine Sunday Telegram has endorsed the Biddeford and Calais racinos on their editorial
page. They write "Too often overlooked amid the fervid arguments about the economic
impact of gambling is the importance of harness racing as a contributor to Maine's
economy and as a valued element of the state's cultural and social structure. The industry
has struggled in recent years, as have many other recreational businesses in a troubled
economy, but it is worth preserving - as an institution, as a direct provider of jobs
and as an economic hub for related businesses."
Well, it took the paper over a decade to get it right but they finally did. Interestingly
the paper calls for a "no" vote on the Lewiston casino.
Endorsements by newspapers don't win elections; votes do. So please vote early by absentee
for yourself and your family. Call, email and text your friends and neighbors. Request
they do the same with everyone in their address book.
