In 2018, Windsor Fair hosted a young guns challenge for younger drivers looking to make their mark in Maine Harness Racing. In 2021, three of those young guns topped the driving standings for the Maine Fair racing circuit which concluded on Sunday, October 10 at Fryeburg Fair.

Andy Harrington was the top driver this year with 58 wins and $255K in earnings. He grabbed driving titles at Topsham, Windsor, Farmington, and Fryeburg Fair. He also set track records with MIDNIGHT ZETTE at Topsham Fair and Fryeburg Fair, WARRIOROFTHEVALLEY at Cumberland Fair, and MATT SO SURE at Fryeburg Fair.

Aaron Hall had 49 wins and $221K in earnings at the fair circuit, good for second place in the standings. His orange, blue and white colors also had two of the fastest miles during the circuit, JET AVIATION and SARAH’S LILLY (an all age track record at Fryeburg Fair), both timed in 1:53.3. Aaron grabbed the driving titles at Skowhegan and Cumberland Fairs along with another track record at Cumberland with WHATCHAGONNADOBOO.

Dan Deslandes visited the winners circle 40 times and earned $145K during Maine Fairs. He earned the driving title at Union Fair. Dan now sits on top of the Maine driving standings for 2021 with 111 wins (as of October 10)

Rounding out the top 10 drivers at the fair circuit were Heath Campbell (39 wins), Gary Mosher (30), David Ingraham (24), Drew Campbell (23), Matty Athearn (15), McGwire Sowers (14) and Walter Case, Jr. (13)

Honorable mention to Winter Asher-Stalbaum, who visited Maine for the summer from Michigan. The 17-year-old got 10 wins on the circuit and was highly respected by his fellow horsemen.

On the training side, a bunch of familiar faces topped the standings. Benson Merrill had the most wins with 37 followed by Valerie Grondin (31), Karl Butterfield (18), Chris DuBois (16), Sara Gibbs (16) and Marc Tardiff (15).

Racing in Maine continues at Bangor Raceway until October 30 and then First Tracks Cumberland takes over until the end of the season on December 31.
