2/1 - The board of directors of the MHHA appointed Michael Graffam to take the vacant seat on the MHHA board of directors. His seat is for the at-large district and is a three year term. The board would like to thank all of the individuals that expressed an interest in the seat for their participation in the process.

The Farmington Horsemen's Association Banquet will be held this Saturday at the UMF Dining Hall. Social Hour starts at 5 pm, with dinner at 6 pm followed by awards and an auction. Attendees are asked to bring something for the auction to benefit the FMA Scholarship Fund.

1/27 - Don Marean has given us a new legislative update.

The MHHA Board would like to thank the horsemen that showed up at the Capitol Building today. It was important that you showed up for the public meeting. Your presence gave the representatives a chance to speak about the industry and had a gathering that they could point to in the meeting hall, and the MHHA Board was pleased with the gathering.

1/26 - There will be a workshop of the Legal and Veteran Affairs tomorrow morning at 9 AM on the 4th floor of the Capital Building. There is a proposal being discussed to cut projected slot revenues by 14% and cap the total for 3 years! This proposal is being brought forth by Rep. Valentino. A strong presence sends a powerful message. If you or anyone you know can attend, it will help send the message! Difficult time slot - important event!

The 2009 Year In Review Poll is back and ready to go. There is one new question this year - Groom of the Year! The poll will be open until February 14th. Remember you can only vote once.

DEALING STRAIGHT and CLAUDE SEELSTER, both owned by Reginald Duguay and trained by David Henderson, Sr., collected 10 wins in Maine during 2009. Unfortunately, they were left off our pinnacle list of "Winners of 10 Races". This has been corrected and we apologize for our mistake.

Please note that the MHHA office in Augusta will open at noon this Tuesday and Thursday.

1/24 - MHHA Hold Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet.

1/18 - The Maine Harness Racing Commission has cancelled its January 20 meeting due to impending weather. They will move the items to it's February 10 meeting.

1/15 - Allison Derrah, who's dream of racing a horse at The Meadowlands came true last week, has lost his battle with lung cancer, passing away this morning at the age of 55. Condolences go out to his family and friends. His obituary is posted here.

1/13 - Edd Rohr had open heart surgery on Monday and is recovering in the cardiac unit of Portsmouth Regional Hospital. The family would like to thank everyone for all the support they have received. It is making a very positive impact on his recovery.
