Blueridge Tooquick, a six year old gelding, went wire to wire today at Union Fair setting a new all age track record of 1:56. The six year old gelding was driven by Greg Bowden and is owned by Ethel Schneider of Factoryville, PA.

It erases a mark of 1:57.0 that was tied Friday by Redstone Ruckus who was driven by Shawn Gray and owned by Cookie N Mo Stables and Jonathan Klee Racing from New York.

Both horses have a common trainer in Philip “Bo” Sowers. “(The track records) were a thrill for me” said Sowers, who acquired both horses from the Pennsylvania racing circuit. Both horses were not racing well and Sowers was tasked with rehabilitating them back in shape to return to Pennsylvania.

It couldn’t have happened at a better time for the horses. The Sowers stable seems to excel towards the end of August. Last year Sowers was in a tie for the training title at Union and won the Windsor Fair training title. This year he is on the same path as he won the Union title this year and is looking forward to the challenge of coveting the Windsor training title.

“The Windsor title will be tough this year. Last year we got our horses raced three times during the fair. There are more horses this year so the racing opportunities will be a little less, but Windsor is a special fair for me.”

The challenge is on as Windsor Fair runs for the next 9 days until Labor Day.
