The Western Maine Harness Horsemen's Association (WMHHA) will be holding informational meetings to inform people of their organization and the benefits that membership would entail.

The WMHHA is an organization that was started a few years ago to help represent horsemen in the Oxford region. It has grown to a point now where it has a new executive director in Gary Moore and will be able to offer members such insurance benefits as third party liability, Fire, Life, A Prescription Drug Card and Health Insurance.

The organization will hold two informational meetings in the upcoming weeks. The first will be in Gray at the American Legion Hall at 15 Lewiston Road. That meeting will be held on November 30th at 7:00 pm. The other meeting will be on December 1 at 7:00 pm in Newport at the Masonic Hall on Moosehead Trail (Route 7).

President Allison MacDonald stressed that the WMHHA does not intend to harm the MHHA or try to create separation within the racing community. “We’re all horsemen here, what we’re trying to do is to provide the horsemen of this state benefits that are available to horsemen in other jurisdictions.”

A membership letter and an insurance survey were mailed out last week to a majority of the horsemen in the state. The WMHHA has a copy on their website if you are interested. Here is a link to their website.
