Track records have been falling recently, with four set at Northern Maine Fair this weekend and two at Scarborough Downs recently.

Northern Maine Fair was a hotbed of activity Sunday afternoon and when the dust settled, DOUBLESHOTASCOTCH came away with a 1:54.1 clocking in the Invitational pace. Visiting from New York for the second straight year, “Scotch” earned the all age track record for the Presque Isle oval. He was driven by Heath Campbell and trained by Valerie Grondin. The five year old gelding by DRAGON AGAIN is owned by Robert DiNozzi of Ossining, New York.

Earlier in the day, ART’S SAKE from the Ben Bill And Will Stable tied the all-age track record. Driven by Kevin Switzer, Jr., the eight year old gelding by ARTSPLACE won the Junior Invitational in 1:55.2. Sadly, for the Michael Hitchcock Stable, the record only lasted two races.

In Maine Sire Stakes action, the three year old fillies visited Aroostook County. Subbing for regular driver Ralph Andersen, Kevin Switzer, Jr. guided CBF FANCY to her first stakes victory in a track record time of 1:58.2. The WESTERN CYCLONE offspring is trained by Dana Childs and owned by Glenn Harris of Raynham, MA.

The Scott MacKenzie Stable captured a couple of track records also. On Friday at Northern Maine Fair, KING’S CAVALIER set the standard for four year old trotting geldings in 2:03.2. The partnership of MacKenzie and Misty Time Stable own the trotter.

Another trotter from the MacKenzie stable tied a record at Scarborough Downs in Stakes action on July 21st. KATAHDIN GOSSIP’s victory in 2:02.0 tied the standard for three year old trotting fillies at the seaside oval. The MUSCLINI filly is owned by Jim & Betsey Kelley of Millinocket, ME.

In a qualifier at Scarborough Downs on July 21, the Tom Dillon owned COCKTAIL ATTIRE trotted to victory in 2:01.4. The two year old by BROADWAY HALL was driven by Dude Goodblood for trainer Donnie Richards. It was the fastest mile ever trotted by a two year old in the State of Maine.

From our knowledge, this is the first time that a qualifier is deserving of a track record. After consulting with the USTA, ME Harness has decided to list the record with a “Q” designation and not to drop the race record for that division.
