Heath Campbell Gets Career Victory #4,000

Heath Campbell of Bangor won his 4,000th harness race as a driver on Friday night at Bangor Raceway. Campbell entered the night with 3,998 wins and was scheduled to drive for nine of the races on the Friday's race card. The 4,000th win came during Campbell's 9th race of the night, driving Pembroke Easy Call who crossed the finish line first..

"This is an extremely elite class that Heath has entered in to," said Michael Hopkins, Director of Raceway Operations at Hollywood Casino Bangor. "He has been racing in Maine for more than 20 years and he has a tremendous track record in that time. We are happy for him and were proud to see his 4,000th win happen here in Bangor."

Campbell, 41, is a native of Lewiston, but spent part of his childhood in Canada. He is no stranger to the racing scene in Maine, racing actively in Bangor, Scarborough, and on the fair circuit in August. He is a third -generation horseman, and his brother, Drew, is also a trainer and a horseman, with more than 3,100 wins under his belt. Heath Campbell was named Maine Driver of the Year last year after setting a personal record of winning $1.14 million in purses.

The 130th season of racing at historic Bangor Raceway began the first weekend in May. Live harness racing takes place every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday through July 20, with Saturday race cards added July 13 and 20, and special 4th of July racing on Independence Day. Post times on Mondays and Tuesdays are at 5 p.m. The 5 p.m. post time will be in effect on Saturdays in July as well, while Friday night post times will remain at 6 p.m.

Admission to the grandstand is free. Race programs are sold at the track starting the day before racing for $2 each.The Race Book Lounge at Hollywood Casino is open daily from noon – midnight, and Hollywood Casino’s gaming floor is open daily from 8 a.m. – 3 a.m.
